Two Indian films to compete with 13 foreign films at IFFI 2016

"Ishti", a film focussing on stigmas of Indian society and "Sahaj Paather Gappo" (Colours of Innocence) -- a film that reflects the struggles of a situationally challenged family -- will compete in the International Competition section of the 47th International Film Festival of India #IFFI.

The names of these two Indian films were announced by the Directorate of Film Festivals on Friday, read a statement.

The 13 other films were announced at a press conference on November 1 here. The International Competition section has 15 films from across the globe, including these two films from the Indian Panorama section. 

Rakhi Sawant booked in Rajasthan for wearing dress with Modi's pictures

Bollywood actor #Rakhi_Sawant has been booked for wearing a dress with pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August, police said.

The First Information Report was lodged at a police station in Rajasthan's Rajsamand district, over 350 km from here. 

"The FIR was lodged on Thursday evening by a local resident against the actor. The complainant said by wearing the particular dress, she not only insulted the Prime Minister but also indulged in obscenity," a police official from Kankroli Police station in Rajsamand told.

Saumya Tandon enjoys a working birthday

After the cast and crew wrapped up their work on the sets of &TV's show, a cake was set up with candles and balloons to celebrate Saumya's birthday on Thursday.

"I had a working birthday. I cut a cake on the set with my entire shooting unit. Asif (Sheikh) ji got me a crazy amount of my favourite variety of dark chocolates and my director gifted me a half day off. To my surprise my staff also cut a cake for me in my room," Saumya said in a statement.

British scientists have identified the reason behind what makes a song so catchy that it gets stuck in our head and goes on playing in an endless loop -- known as experiencing involuntary musical imagery or earworms.

Findings of a study, published in the journal Psychology of Aesthetics, Creativity and the Arts, showed that songs that are usually faster and have a fairly generic and easy-to-remember melody but have some unique intervals such as leaps or repetitions that set them apart from the "average pop song" get stuck in our head.

Protein rich diet can reduce fatty liver disease

Consuming foods rich in proteins such as lean meat, fish, legumes and almonds can significantly reduce fat accumulated in the liver within six weeks, researchers say.

The findings showed that liver fat levels dropped by up to 48 per cent after eating high-protein diet regardless of whether it came from a plant or animal source, and also prevented the occurrence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease -- a very common disorder where excess fat accumulates in the liver -- especially in people with diabetes.

"When left untreated, fatty liver is an important step progress to Type 2 diabetes and can develop into liver cirrhosis, which can have life-threatening effects," said lead author Andreas F.H. Pfeiffer, Endocrinologist at the German Institute of Human Nutrition Potsdam-Rehbruecke (DifE), in Germany.

Odisha govt approves Gitanjali Gems' industrial park

The Odisha government has accorded an in-principle approval to Gitanjali Gems Ltd. for setting up a gems and jewellery industrial park at Ramdaspur in Cuttack district.

The total investment envisaged in this private industrial park spread over 100 acres is Rs 685 crore over seven years, said an official on Thursday.

The in-principle approval for the establishment of the park was given at the state-level committee meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi.

The committee decided to advise the project proponent to submit a Detail Project Report (DPR) within six months for consideration of final approval.

Second edition of Pro Wrestling League kicks off in unique style

Sunburn CEO speaks up on venue change

The venue of the tenth edition of the EDM festival #Sunburn has been shifted from Goa to Pune. Sunburn's CEO #Karan_Singh says pending dues is not the only reason behind the change in venue.

Goa Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar on Monday said that the organisers of Sunburn can still hold the event in Goa as long as they pay dues of Rs 1.75 crore for providing police personnel for security cover.

"You see there are a lot of payments that have been made from our end, as deposits, which are still with the authorities over there (Goa). And apart from that, there are many issues from their end, that we were facing," Karan Singh told.

Jaipur to host National Children's Film Festival from Nov 14

The second three-day National Children's Film Festival #NCFF organised by Children's Film Society of India #CFSI will open in the Pink City, Jaipur, from Children's Day, November 14, an official said here on Thursday. It is themed on 'Make In India'.

The inaugural event will be held at the Birla Auditorium in Jaipur with the screening of the film "Gauru", directed by Ram Choyal, featuring singer-actress Ila Arun in a lead role and set against the rural background of Rajasthan, said CFSI CEO Shravan Kumar.

Besides, around 40 films, including many award-winners like "Gopi Gawaiya Bagha Bajaiyaa", "Kima's Lode", "Budhia Singh - On The Run", and others will be screened in 10 cinema halls over the three festival days.

"Jaipur is a colourful city with a rich cultural background, dance, music, vibrant costumes, beautiful handicrafts are there which will add vivid panorama of children's films of all kinds from CFSI," said CFSI Chairperson Mukesh Khanna, popular among kids as Shaktimaan.

Hollywood stunt director eases out action scenes for Taapsee

Actress #Taapsee_Pannu found it easy to film action sequences in the upcoming film "Naam Shabana", courtesy Hollywood stuntman and stunts director Cyril Raffaelli.

Raffaelli, known for films like "The Incredible Hulk", "The Transporter" and "Hitman", is responsible for creating action sequences for Taapsee in the movie, which will also star Akshay Kumar.

Asked about her experience of working with him, she said in a statement: "He is a fanatic stuntman. He makes doing an action sequence very easy. He is not only a good stunt director, but an excellent teacher too. 

"He knows exactly how to mentally motivate a person which helps to perform the stunts more effectively. It's an honour to work with him."

Russian Film Days second edition begins November 15

In an attempt to nurture the cultural relations between Russia and India, the second edition of #Russian_Film_Days is set to take place here from November 15 to 18.

Cinemarus production company, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Russian Filmmakers Union, will be held at the Royal Opera House and Cinepolis.

I'm secure as an actor: Rajniesh Duggall

Asked if he initially feared being overshadowed by his co-actors in the films, Rajniesh told over phone from Mumbai: "No, not at all."

"When I listen to a script, the first thing that comes to me is, 'Would I like to see such a film?' And after I see what my role is, I see if I like the strength in that role or if I can add some meat to it. As an actor, I'm very secure."

Raam Reddy's 'Thithi' kickstarts DIFF 2016

Filmmaker Raam Reddy's award-winning Kannada film "Thithi" on Thursday kickstarted the fifth edition of Dharamshala International Film Festival #DIFF with a screening to a packed house here.

The opening of the four-day long film festival was attended by Himachal Pradesh Urban Development Minister Sudhir Sharma, among other dignetaries.

"Thithi", which earlier won various honours at 68th Locarno International Film Festival, Marrakech International Film Festival, 19th Shanghai International Film Festival and 63rd National Film Awards, is a dramatic comedy about how three generations of sons react to the death of the oldest in their clan, a man named Century Gowda -- a locally renowned, highly cantankerous 101-year-old man.

Not only the film give a perfect start to the cultural and independent film festival, but it also witnessed a packed house in the Tibetan Children's Village here.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh was supposed to attend the opening ceremony, but was forced to leave for Delhi due to bad health, said filmmaker Ritu Sarin, who curates the festival along with her husband Tenzing Sonam.

Actor, Director #Shashank_Udapurkar who has recently enacted most famous social activist “Anna Hazare” in the biopic film, shares that he has also enacted Sambhaji in his biopic, which is yet to release. And shared both the characters in respective biopic are too different. He shared the views how his life got changed doing film 'Anna'.

Shashank said, “In my second biopic film, I am enacting Sambhaji, son of historical ruler Shivaji. Playing two completely opposite characters, from silent Anna to violent Sambhaji. Biopic on 'Anna' and 'Sambhaji' altogether opposite characters. The changeover is amazing.”

Actor said it is too early to speak about Sambhaji biopic and shared his views on biopic 'Anna'.

Actor Shashank said, “I could see a change inside me as a human being after doing the film Anna. When Annaji himself told me that he felt like he was seeing his flashback after watching the film, I felt very satisfied as a filmmaker and as an actor. I am very happy with the huge public and critical appreciation, I got for the film.”

Fitness may guard you against stress related health issues

The findings showed that a high fitness level offers particularly effective protection for professionals who experience a high degree of stress in the workplace -- known as psychosocial stress. 

Psychosocial stress is one of the key factors leading to illness-related absences from work. This type of stress is accompanied by impaired mental well-being and an increase in depressive symptoms. 

Canola oil may help reduce belly fat

Making #canola_oil part of your diet may help you burn extra abdominal fat in less than four weeks, finds a new study.

"Visceral, or abdominal, fat increases the risk for cardiovascular disease, and is also associated with increased risk for conditions such as metabolic syndrome and diabetes. Monounsaturated fats in canola oil decreases fat that has adverse health effects," said Penny M. Kris-Etherton, Professor at the Pennsylvania State University, US.

For the study, the researchers tested the effect of five different vegetable oil blended in 101 participants' diets through a controlled study. 

The subjects were randomly assigned to follow for four weeks each of the treatment oil diets: conventional canola, high-oleic acid canola, high-oleic acid canola with DHA (a type of omega-3 fatty acid), corn/safflower and flax/safflower. 

An egg a day can reduce risk of stroke

Consuming an egg -- nutrient-rich source of high quality protein -- per day may lead to a 12 per cent reduction in risk of stroke, a new research shows.

One large egg boasts six grams of high-quality protein and antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin, found within the egg yolk, as well as vitamins E, D, and A, the study said.

"Eggs do have many positive nutritional attributes, including antioxidants, which have been shown to reduce oxidative stress and inflammation. They are also an excellent source of protein, which has been related to lower blood pressure," said lead researcher Dominik Alexander of the EpidStat Institute, Michigan, US.

Eating fish may ward off allergies in kids

Women who consume oily fish while pregnant or during breast-feeding may decrease the risk of their children developing food allergies, asthma, eczemas or hay fever, researchers have found.

The findings have showed that children introduced to fish and eggs -- major source of omega 3 fatty acids -- before 11 months of age had a lower risk of developing allergies. 

"Fish intake in the family seems to reduce the risk of allergies," said Karin Jonsson from Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden, in a statement.

Daily exercise may expose city kids to pollution

Children from urban areas who engage in vigorous exercises both indoors and outdoors may be at a greater exposure to black carbon -- a traffic-related pollutant -- than children who are less active, researchers said.

Black carbon -- a pollutant that is also an indicator of diesel exhaust exposure -- is known to have an adverse impact on health. 

The study revealed that the children who exercised were exposed to 25 per cent greater concentration of black carbon compared to non-active children. 

There are numerous health benefits associated with regular physical activity, including reduced airway inflammation compared to less active children, but, exposure to high levels of black carbon may lessen this effect, the researchers said.

Paul Feig's wife praises 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil'

Hollywood filmmaker Paul Feig's wife Laurie, a Bollywood buff, has lauded Indian filmmaker Karan Johar's latest release "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil", calling it a "brilliant film".

The couple wished Shah Rukh on his 51st birthday on Wednesday. Back in May, when Shah Rukh hosted a star-studded dinner party for Apple CEO Tim Cook, Paul's wife had tweeted: "Some day I hope Paul Feig can be welcome at Mannat! Dream, Shah Rukh Khan." 

Shashank Udapurkar working on Sambhaji biopic

Actor-director #Shashank_Udapurkar, who was last seen in a biopic on Gandhian activist #Anna_Hazare, will next be seen essaying the role of Sambhaji Bhosale -- the eldest son of Chhatrapati Shivaji -- in a biopic titled "Sambhaji 1989".

"In my second biopic film, I am enacting Sambhaji, son of historical ruler Shivaji. This time I am playing completely opposite character, from silent Anna to violent Sambhaji. Biopic on 'Anna' in 'Anna: Kisan Baburao Hazare' and 'Sambhaji' are altogether opposite characters and the changeover is amazing," Shashank told.

Directed by Rajesh S Dulgaj, the biopic is slated to release next year.

After doing two biopics on two revolutionary men, Shashank says "the benefit of a biopic is they are well written characters and people know the final result". 

"So, we get reactions immediately. Biopics are being made and appreciated also throughout the world. Today's youth is the best audience. They have all the mediums to not only see Indian films but also world cinema. Their judgment is very fast," he added.

SRK partners with Dubai Tourism for short films

Films competing at Oscars, fests to get promotion funds

Union Information and Broadcasting Minister #M_Venkaiah_Naidu on Tuesday announced that the ministry will provide Film Promotion Fund to films selected as Indias official entry to Academy Awards under the Best Foreign Language Film category. Money will also be available for movies which are selected in any competition section of an #international_film_festival.

Naidu made the announcement at the press conference for the 47th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), which will take place from November 20-28 in Goa.

Indian films representing the nation at Oscars will get Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore.

European Film Academy to honour Pierce Brosnan

Irish actor #Pierce_Brosnan will be honoured next at a gala in the Polish city of Wroclaw on December 10 with an honorary award from the #European_Film_Academy (EFA).

This was announced by the EFA from its headquarters in Berlin on Tuesday, Efe news reported.

Brosnan, who will attend as guest of honor at the ceremony of the 29th European Film Awards, will personally collect the award for "his impressive dedication to cinema", said the EFA in a statement.

The Academy emphasised Brosnan's "rich and extensive career in front of the camera and behind the scenes as a producer," whether in action films, comedies or dramas.

Aishwarya is a director's actor: Omung Kumar

Filmmaker #Omung_Kumar has praised the acting skills of former Miss World #Aishwarya_Rai_Bachchan, who turned 43 on Tuesday, and also said that she is a director's actor.

"She is a good actress...but she is a director's actor. So, she can mould herself completely for the character. When we decided to cast her as Dalbir Kaur for 'Sarbjit', she proved that and on screen, we saw her as a character and not as a glamorous diva," Kumar told.

After clinching the Miss World crown in 1994, Aishwarya starred in many hit films like "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam", "Taal" and "Dhoom: 2".

Kumar said that "after the release of 'Sarbjit' (2016), people have changed their perception about her as an actress".

Kumar said: "Even after becoming such a huge star, she is extremely hard working and a hardcore professional. She does not just work in a film, she collaborates with the director of the film. She is very cooperative by nature, and that is why I share a very good bond with Aishwarya."

No Pakistani films at IFFI 2016

The upcoming 47th International Film Festival of India #IFFI will not screen any #Pakistani_film as the two entries sent from the country were "not up to the mark".

Union Information and Broadcasting Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu along with Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Deputy Chief Minister of Goa Francis D'souza and Directorate of Film Festivals Senthil Rajan, held a press conference here on Tuesday to unveil the poster and share the highlights of the film festival, which will take place in Goa from November 20-28.

It was also announced that out of 1032 entries from across the globe, IFFI 2016 will screen 194 films from 88 countries, but Pakistan won't be a part of it.
