Tips to cure for cracked heels this winter

Monica Sood, Managing Director, beauty brand TBC by Nature, has shared some easy hacks to keep our feet and heels soft and tender this winter.

♦ Oil massage: Oils are the best natural moisturisers, not only for your dry feet but also for your skin anywhere. You can either use any hydrogenated oil alone or mix them to get added benefits of their different components.

♦ Glycerine-rosewater remedy: Glycerine is one of the best moisturisers that one can imagine. Applying glycerine on cracked heels can accelerate the healing process as well. Blend together one tablespoon of glycerine with two teaspoons of rosewater and half a tea spoon of freshly extracted lemon juice. Apply this mixture on your heels and wear a pair of clean socks. You should follow this remedy just before you turn in for the night. It can give you smooth and soft heels without any cracks.

♦ Oatmeal-jojoba oil remedy: Another good exfoliating foot mask can be made using ground oatmeal and jojoba oil. Grind up a tablespoon of oatmeal in your blender, pour it into a bowl and add jojoba oil to create a thick paste. Massage this into the damaged skin on your feet, and put your feet up for half an hour. When the time is up, rinse your feet with cool water.

Don't just make right food choices, exercise too

  • facebook

Being healthy is more than just making the right food choices - it's also about supplementing #healthy_food choices with increased participation in #physical_activity, says an expert, who feels a few exercise trends must be incorporated into one's daily life.

Susan Bowerman, Director of Worldwide Nutrition Education and Training, Herbalife, has shared tips and trends for those who resolve to be fitter in the New Year, but lose interest with time.

♦ Ditch the office chair: Just because you work in an office setting, it doesn't mean you can't be active. Adding more activity to your day can be as easy as standing at your desk while you make phone calls, holding walking meetings, or even taking the stairs instead of the elevator.

♦ Take a walk at lunch: To combat afternoon slumps in energy and focus, take a walk during your lunch hour. A recent study, published in the Scandinavian Journal of Medicine and Science in Sports, showed that lunchtime strolls can boost people's moods and ability to handle stress at work. If you combine your walk with a meal replacement shake, you are getting a convenient meal while getting some exercise.

♦ Eat more mindfully: Eating mindfully means that you pay attention to the foods you choose in order to properly fuel your body. Establish regular eating habits and follow a few simple rules for a healthier diet -- include plenty of vegetables and whole fruits at meals and snacks, limit your intake of fats and sweets, make sure to feed your muscles with protein, and drink plenty of water.

Researchers from the University of Maryland conducted a study on four-to-nine-year-old kids about a series of hypothetical situations in which children committed misdeeds and then either lied or confessed.

The result found that four-to-five-year-olds were more likely to connect positive emotions to the act of lying and negative emotions for confessing their wrongdoing.

On the other hand, the seven-to-nine-year-olds more often associated guilt with lying and positive emotions with confessing.

"The goal of the study was to investigate the emotions that children associate with lying and confessing," said Craig Smith, lead research investigator.

The study also tested whether these emotions were connected to children's tendencies to confess or cover up misdeeds in real-world situations.

Actress #Claire_Danes says she was in agony over her acting choices before "Homeland" came along.

She said: "My goal is always to do something that feels just beyond my reach, and 'Homeland' continues to do that. Every season, they find new ways to scare me. The show is like a diamond that fell from the sky. I'll always feel slightly bludgeoned by it, but in the best way possible."

The Emmy Award winner went on to explain how she struggled through a two-year break from acting while waiting to find more meaningful roles and characters. Then "Homeland" came along.

"It was a nightmare. I was in such agony. I had been so stimulated and energized, and I felt really robust and capable and eager. But I couldn't go back to the ingénue role or the limited secretary-type roles. I wanted to play someone who would move the story forward," she said.

Know the difference between real, fake leather jackets

  • facebook

With a number of options available in #leather_jackets, it's easy to get duped. Know the difference between fake and genuine leather by the texture and odour, says an expert.

Arshbir Singh Bhatia, Director at, an online platform for buying leather garments and accessories, has given tips and tricks to check the authenticity of the leather:

♦ Easiest ways to check is by pressing the texture of the leather. If it is real, the texture would seem wrinkled and pulled. If it is fake, it would hardly make any difference to the texture when affected by the pressure.

Also, genuine leather does not crack easily and is quite durable. It can last for more than 10 years. One can easily see a drastic change in jackets crafted in faux leather after using for just one season.

♦ Try to check and feel the texture of the leather before making a purchase as little imperfections like creases or scratches are considered to be a good signal while testing the authenticity of genuine leather.

Arm yourself with an #eye_primer, highlighter, #mascara and more to make your eyes beautiful, says a make-up artist.

Make-up artist Puja Taluja suggests how:

* Eye primer: It's important to always use an eye primer before starting the make-up on the eyes. This helps to intensify the colour of the eye shadow, smoothen out the eye lids and also makes the eye make-up last longer.

* Highlighter: Using a highlighter on the brow bone gives a beautiful shape to the eyes and makes them look more striking.

* Mascara: Using the right mascara can really help open out eyes. And it's important to use the mascara in an outward and upward direction.

* Eye liner: Depending on the look you want to choose, you can opt for that shape with an eye liner. For instance winged eyes or cat eyes.

* Kohl pencil: If you don't have well defined almond shape eyes, then you should avoid filling a lot of kohl as it makes your eyes look smaller.
